'Clear Steps' series of books

The Tagus 'clear steps' series of books enables you to improve your operational reliability.

At Tagus International we have been helping our customers improve their operational performance since 1983. Over this time, we have built up an enviable amount of knowledge about what works (and what doesn't work!). Most of the projects we have undertaken for our customers have involved developing the 'best way' to undertake a process related to one or more of our facets.

We have come to realise that there is a lack of books on the market which give clear practical steps on how to do some of these quite basic processes. There are a number of heavy theoretical or reference books for some facets whilst for others there are virtually no books at all. So we have decided to fill the gap and produce our 'clear steps' series of books to help you improve your operations.

The first two in the series, Maintenance Planning and Scheduling and Maintenance Options, are now available to buy online. The third in the series, Equipment Ownership, will be published in April 2010.

Why do so many organisations struggle to carry out their maintenance effectively?  One reason may be that maintenance appears as a cost in the company’s accounts and, as with all costs, there is pressure to keep them to a minimum.  Additionally, many of the activities involved in executing maintenance, such as planning and scheduling, may appear on the face of it to be non-value adding.  There is pressure, therefore, to just do the perceived value added activity of attending to the machine without worrying about planning and scheduling the work.

However, there have been many studies that prove that the best in class companies plan over 95% of all their maintenance activities and that properly planned and scheduled maintenance work is three to four times less expensive than unplanned maintenance work. Unfortunately, this is not obvious to the uninitiated so this book is designed to explain how the best in class organisations plan, schedule and execute their maintenance work. It provides the practical information and steps needed to execute maintenance work effectively and efficiently.

"Maintenance Options" - £25.00 (Email us to buy a copy or telephone +44 207 075 6062)

Selecting the right maintenance strategy can help you to improve production efficiency, reduce costs, meet regulatory requirements, have a clear audit trail for risk management and strengthen cash flow.

This book is based on many years of experience at Tagus and will show you how to develop a maintenance plan that matches your business requirements whether it is based on one or a number of maintenance options.  In our experience, a blend of options gives a more effective, efficient and flexible approach to getting the most from your production assets.

Maintenance has become increasingly important to ensure equipment availability, quality, environmental demands are addressed, production targets and plant safety are met.  It is a critical core competence.

However, improper maintenance and the unavailability of equipment often limits the effectiveness of production.  It is suggested that as much as one-third of the total maintenance cost is spent unnecessarily part of which is due to the incorrect selection of a suitable maintenance option, including the limited or misuse of preventive maintenance.

This ‘clear steps’ e-book explains how best in class organisations select the maintenance option(s) that is right for them.
